Theodore Roosevelt Association visits OPTIONS Youth Program
May 20, 2026

On May 19th, the Theodore Roosevelt Association was proud to visit the NYPD OPTIONS Wellness Center in the Bronx, where TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino and Police Program Lead Edward Scali (NYPD Ret.) saw firsthand the powerful impact of this innovative youth initiative. Members of the NYPD Community Affairs team provided a comprehensive tour of the facility, highlighting the program’s dynamic offerings and community-centered approach.
“Programs like OPTIONS carry Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy forward—building bridges between law enforcement and communities while empowering the next generation with the skills and confidence to lead,” said Chris Cosentino, Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. “We value our partnership with the NYPD, the New York City Police Foundation, and the OPTIONS program in supporting youth and inspiring future leaders. The Theodore Roosevelt Association is proud to highlight initiatives that reflect Theodore Roosevelt’s enduring belief in civic responsibility, character development, and the promise of America’s youth.”
Established by the New York City Police Foundation and the NYPD, the OPTIONS program equips young New Yorkers with the tools they need to succeed—focusing on decision-making, emotional intelligence, de-escalation, and situational awareness. Through workshops, training programs, and internships, the program fosters meaningful dialogue between NYPD officers and youth, creating space for honest conversations about real-life challenges and opportunities.
To date, more than 40,000 young people and hundreds of NYPD officers have participated in OPTIONS programming. These centers offer cutting-edge resources such as virtual reality training labs, financial literacy education, career readiness support, and creative programming in areas like podcasting, photography, and coding.
This work reflects a legacy deeply connected to Theodore Roosevelt himself. As New York City Police Commissioner, TR championed professionalism, community trust, and reform within the NYPD. He believed strongly in the potential of young people and the importance of mentorship, discipline, and opportunity in shaping strong citizens.
