Theodore Roosevelt Association Delivers Comfort on National Teddy Bear Day at Cohen Children’s Medical Center
On September 9, 2025, the Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) delivered teddy bears to young patients at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens, New York, in honor of National Teddy Bear Day. The special visit was part of the TRA’s long-standing Teddy Bears for Kids Program, which provides stuffed teddy bears to children in hospitals to offer comfort and reassurance during difficult times. Since 1986, more than 86,000 teddy bears have been delivered to children in hospitals across the United States.
TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino emphasized the importance of the effort, noting the program’s legacy of service. “The Teddy Bears for Kids Program reflects President Theodore Roosevelt’s enduring spirit of compassion,” Cosentino said. “By placing a teddy bear in the arms of a child who may be feeling scared or uncertain, we hope to bring them comfort, courage, and a sense of joy, even in a hospital setting.”
TRA staff members, Daniel Bedard and Edward Scali, joined Cosentino for the delivery and they were greeted by Erin Donohue, Cohen Children’s Medical Center’s Director of Hospital Operations.
The Teddy Bears for Kids Program has been embraced nationally since its creation, continuing the legacy of Theodore Roosevelt’s namesake toy while embodying his values of kindness, care, and resilience. For many young patients, the plush companion serves as both a source of comfort and a reminder that they are not alone in their journey.
